Dental implants: show off a sparkling smile

It is a common sight that although one pays a lot of attention to his physical appearance but he does not pay much attention on teeth. Life has become so hectic that one forgets to take care of his teeth. With the advent of science and technology, dental implants prove a blessing to many people who suffer from bad or misaligned tooth. With the usage of dental implants, there is relief to the sufferers who have a bad tooth. Dental implants is done in such a way that no one can even make out the difference. Dental surgeons have devised a great way to cure and restore the earlier smile. With the help of dental implants, the facial structure gets preserved. This helps in preventing bone deterioration which often occurs when teeth are missing.

Dental implants are the fastest growing field in dentistry. Surgical grade titanium is used to make dental implants. This process is the best and finest system in the world. Under dental implants process, tiny titanium posts are inserted into the jaw bone where teeth are missing. The metal anchors are just like tooth substitutes. After that there is surgical placement of them into the jaw bone. Only an oral surgeon, periodontist or a general dentist with specialized training can do this process. Under this process, one can see that the top of the implant is just below the level of gum tissue and exposed to the inside of the mouth by leaving a small hole in the gums. After that, a healing cap is screwed into the threads of the implant to prevent the gum tissue from growing over.

This process of placing dental implants takes about 6-12 weeks following the surgery. This is because the implants bonding with the jawbone takes time. The bone has to actually attach to the implant to provide stability. But it must be realized that this attachment is not the same as that of natural tooth. No periodical ligament is involved. This is a feature in bone to tooth attachment that allows for tooth movement through bone. Dental implants cannot be moved orthodontically nor are exposed to any kind of forces that cause natural teeth to move in response. It must be taken into consideration that if implants are being considered with multiple missing teeth, then the dentist must plan the number of implants and the type of restoration.

Dental implants are an excellent option to those, who need to replace teeth. Safe, highly effective and a comfortable way to replace your teeth is what dental implants offer. The implant procedure depends on several factors like patient’s dental health, the number of teeth involved etc. All these factors determine the total number of visits by the client to the dentist. It is true that placement in the lower jaw need about three months to heal, while placements in the upper jaw need about six months to heal. In case of many missing teeth, implants are usually done to support a removable denture.

Beware of Swindles Offering Up Free Acai Berry Products

By Ryan Dodson

With the growing popularity of the Acai berry and associated products, there are many corporations that operate on the Internet; providing Acai based products for wellness. While there are several valid sellers online, it is not entirely startling that there are now also several offers for Acai supplements that are not really genuine.

To protect yourself from unscrupulous sales methods, and with all internet sites that ask you to provide your personal information, make sure that the site you are looking at has a privacy policy in addition to accurate contact info. This should include electronic mail and phone, or at the very least, one or the other. Typically, vendors that function lawfully want to have communication with their customer base. Businesses that are functioning with shady practices would choose not to be reached at all.

Many internet sites are now extending a free trial of Acai berry products. If you chance upon one of these, be overcautious. Often they will ask for charge card and other private data. Before you supply these particulars, including your email address, be certain that there is some evident method of communicating with the company directly. There are instances where you may think you are to receive a free sample of a product, but you end up incurring charges on your credit card for a monthly service of which you may not have been aware. Often, there is no contact information for these businesses. So it is hard to have the service and its accompanying charges to your credit card, invalidated.

Another fashion in which some unethical vendors foil clients is by using a process that peels a great deal of the nutrients from the Acai berry, frequently using the non-potent seeds from the berry, or even thinning out the concoction so much that it grows hardly potent at all. Since it is next to impossible for virtually all consumers to travel to the fabrication facility to determine how the procedure operates first hand, it is important to only consider dealing with a reputable vendor that provides contact information.

There are also scams that prey on people by throwing in the names of famous people in order to entice you to supply your personal data, including charge card number in order to acquire a free sampling. If you follow these points and deal with only trusted online sites, you are a good deal less likely to lose your money or be taken in by a con.

Urinary Tract Infection – Natural Cure for Urinary Tract Infection

By peter hutch

A urinary tract infection (UTI) is a bacterial infection that affects any part of the urinary tract. Although urine contains a variety of fluids, salts, and waste products, it usually does not have bacteria in it. When bacteria get into the bladder or kidney and multiply in the urine, they cause a UTI.

The most common type of UTI is a bladder infection which is also often called cystitis. Another kind of UTI is a kidney infection, known as pyelonephritis, and is much more serious. Although they cause discomfort, urinary tract infections are usually quickly and easily treated by seeing a doctor promptly.

Infections of the urinary tract are the second most common type of infection in the body. Urinary tract infections (UTIs) account for about 8.3 million doctor visits each year.* Women are especially prone to UTIs for reasons that are not yet well understood. One woman in five develops a UTI during her lifetime. UTIs in men are not as common as in women but can be very serious when they do occur.

Although most urinary tract infections or UTIs are not serious, they are painful. Approximately fifty percent of all women will have at least one UTI in her lifetime with many women having several infections throughout their lifetime. Fortunately, these infections are easily treated with antibiotics that cause the symptoms to quickly disappear. Some women seem are more prone to repeated infections than others and for them it can be a frustrating battle.

Sexual intercourse is a common cause of urinary tract infections because the female anatomy can make women more prone to urinary tract infections. During sexual intercourse bacteria in the vaginal area is sometimes massaged into the urethra by the motion of the penis.

Natural Cure for Urinary Tract Infection

Although natural remedies are being studied for urinary tract infection, it is important to seek medical attention and not self-medicate. If improperly treated, a urinary tract infection may spread to the kidneys. This can occur even though a person’s symptoms appear to improve.

Take cranberry juice to fight urinary tract infection. It disallows bacteria to cling to the cell, which line the urinary tract.

Prepare a mixture of 1/2 tsp baking soda in eight ounce glass of water. It is very helpful on the first signs of urinary tract infection. The presence of baking soda in your system raises the acid-base balance of the acidic urine.

For severe UTI blend equal parts of pipsissewa, buchu, echinacea, and uva ursi tinctures. Have 20 drops of this blended mixture every two hours for first two days and later 1 tsp four times a day, till you have completely recovered. Have a soothing tea such as marshmallow root to counter the strong antiseptic effect of urva ursi.

Natural remedies have been used in traditional medicine for thousands of years to support the solid health of the urinary system, encouraging healthy and efficient urine flow and pH balance.

While drinking fluids is the best way to flush out the bacteria that cause urinary tract infections, some fluids are better than others, says Michael A. Klaper, M.D., a nutritional medicine specialist in Pompano Beach, Florida, and director of the Institute of Nutritional Education and Research, an organization based in Manhattan Beach, California, that teaches doctors about nutrition and its relationship to disease. He says that cranberry juice is probably the best, because it helps prevent bacteria from anchoring to bladder walls.

Fibromyalgia – Causes, Symptoms and Treatment

By Peter rodrick

Fibromyalgia is an arthritis-related condition characterized widespread and the presence of tender points, or areas of the body that are particularly sensitive to pressure. Other symptoms may include disturbances, severe fatigue, , cognitive difficulties, headaches, bladder irritability and spasms, irritable bowel syndrome, jaw problems and painful menstruation.

What causes fibromyalgia?

Experts have theories about what may , but there is not enough evidence to support any single cause. Some think that people with fibromyalgia may have nerve cells that are too sensitive. Others think that chemicals in the brain () may be out of balance. Or it may be related to problems with the deep phase of sleep.

It has been suggested that sleep disturbances, which are common in fibromyalgia patients, may actually cause the condition. Another theory suggests that the may be associated with changes in skeletal muscle metabolism, possibly caused by decreased blood flow, which could cause chronic fatigue and weakness.

Others have suggested that an infectious microbe, such as a virus, triggers the illness. At this point, no such virus or microbe has been identified.

Signs And Symptoms Of Fibromyalgia.

Fibromyalgia carries many symptoms with the primary ones being pain and aching of the muscles, low energy and changes and disturbances to sleeping pattern.

Muscles can feel exhausted and can cause aching of the most of the body.

Most fibromyalgia patients have an associated sleep disorder called the alpha-EEG anomaly. This condition was uncovered in a sleep lab with the aid of a machine that recorded the brain waves of patients during sleep. Researchers found that the majority of fibromyalgia patients could fall asleep without much trouble, but their deep level (or stage 4) sleep was constantly interrupted by bursts of awake-like brain activity. Patients appeared to spend the night with one foot in sleep and the other one out of it.

Treatment of Fibromyalgia

The goal of treatment is to reduce pain, improve sleep, and relieve associated symptoms. Treatment is tailored to the individual. Some patients experience significant relief of symptoms, some find moderate improvement, and others report little or no relief. Only about 5% of fibromyalgia patients become symptom free. Most treatment regimens include medication, lifestyle changes, exercise, physical therapy, and behavior modification.

Exercise does not always help, but studies have shown that it improves symptoms in a good number of cases. If you are able, consider gradually building up to more and more exercise. Aerobic exercises which cause little ‘pounding’ such as walking, cycling and swimming are thought to be the best form of exercise to improve symptoms. Stretching exercises such as yoga may also help. A doctor or physiotherapist can advise on a suitable programme for your particular circumstances. The aim is to exercise safely and without increased pain. A typical goal to aim for is to build up exercise to 4-5 times a week for at least 20 to 30 minutes a session. However, it may take months to build up to this level.

The Automated External Defibrillator

Every now and then throughout history, a medical machine or device evolves to a point where it can greatly impact the health and well-being of mankind. The automated external defibrillator is one such device. In the last few years, due to advancements in design and technology, the popularity of these devices has grown exponentially.

Not long ago these devices were only used by trained professionals such as doctors and ambulance crews. Back then the smallest defibrillator was large, heavy and technically hard to use – and it was potentially very dangerous to the .

The main function of the defibrillator is to restart the heart of someone suffering cardiac arrest. But given that victims usually die within five minutes of the attack, and given that the average time it takes an ambulance to reach the site of an situation is at least nine minutes, most victims used to die before help reached them.

Enter a new breed of defibrillator.

Thanks to electronics miniaturization plus major advances in cardiac research, external defibrillators have become smaller (about the size of a baseball mitt), relatively inexpensive (you can pick one up for well under $1500), much safer, and far easier to use. Not to mention the fact that they now even more effective.

In fact, many AED’s on the market today can be used by someone with no previous medical training. This is because the defibrillator can assess whether or not the victim is in need of defibrillation, and if so, will audibly and visually guide the operator through the entire process of defibrillation.

The way they work are: the defibrillator will first test and determine if defibrillation is even necessary. Two paddles (electrodes) are then placed on the victim’s torso after a gel is applied to reduce impedance. An electrical is then administered through the body to the heart. This is repeated if necessary until the heart begins beating again naturally and synchronously.

How well do they work? Your chances of surviving sudden cardiac arrest are less than 5% if a defibrillator is not used within a few minutes of the event. Conversely, if a defibrillator is on hand you will have an over 90% chance of survival.

Automated external defibrillators are showing up in public and private places at an ever-increasing rate. This can only be a good thing since only a small percentage of people suffer cardiac arrest in a fully equipped medical facility.

Currently the only defibrillator you can buy without a prescription is the Heart Start. With a prescription there are more choices available. So whether you’re in the home or , an RV or boat, I say, let’s get one and live a safer life.

The blood capillaries to the colon commence to pick up the toxins, poisons and noxious debris as it seeps through the bowel wall. The heavy mucus glaze in the colon thickens and becomes a host of putrefaction. All tissues and organs of the body are now taking on toxic substances. In addition, the colon therapist should remain with you and tap the abdomen to help remove matter, not just hook you up to a hose and ramble off. Many colon therapists prefer to give 10 treatments. Because it is a powerful detoxifier and absorbs everything it comes in contact with, take it two hours after a meal (so that you can absorb the nutrition from ur meal) and/or two hours before a meal (so that it can pass through before you eat).

The colon is one of the primary organs involved in the body”s detoxification process. A healthy body has the natural ability to eliminate toxins that we are exposed to everyday. Harmful substances such as bacteria, pesticides, food additives, environmental pollutants, drugs and chemicals are filtered out by an internal detoxification process and eliminated through our intestines. Ammonia, a waste byproduct of protein metabolism and bacterial fermentation of food processed in the digestive tract, may be detoxified internally by a healthy elimination system.

Spinal Stenosis

November 10th, 2008

Spinal Stenosis

Symptoms and Treatment of Lumbar Stenosis

Spinal stenosis is caused by narrowing in the openings of the vertebrae that nerves pass through. When the narrowed area is in the lower back, it is called lumbar stenosis. The symptoms of lumbar stenosis are related to the compression of nerves that go to the hips, legs and feet.

The most common symptom of lumbar stenosis is pain in the legs. Sometimes people will have what’s called “neurogenic claudication” pain, which is heaviness, aching or cramping in your legs when you walk. Claudication pain gets worse if you walk and is relieved by sitting or lying down. It can be caused by impaired circulation to the legs (vascular claudication) or by lumbar stenosis. The claudication pain of lumbar stenosis is usually also relieved by bending over or stooping down.

People with lumbar stenosis can also have “radicular pain,” or pain that radiates down one or both legs, also called sciatica. Other sensory abnormalities caused by lumbar stenosis are tingling, heaviness or numbness in your toes, feet and legs. Motor abnormalities include weakness in one or both legs and difficulty walking.

Rarely, severe lumbar stenosis can cause “caudae equinae syndrome.” The spinal cord itself ends in the lower back and splits into several nerves. Those nerves continue down the spinal canal and exit in pairs between the vertebrae. Lumbar stenosis that compresses the caudae equinae can cause “saddle anesthesia,” or loss of feeling where you would sit on a saddle, bladder or fecal incontinence and sexual dysfunction. It is considered a medical emergency because only a very large disc herniation or other serious problem can cause caudae equinae syndrome.

Treatment modalities for lumbar stenosis can be divided into three categories: conservative, alternative and surgical.

Conservative treatment includes anti-inflammatory medications, muscle relaxers and pain medications. Physical therapy is often helpful in improving pain and mobility. If the pain continues, you could receive cortisone or anesthetic injections. Anesthetic injections, or nerve blocks, usually give you some relief from the pain. Cortisone injections seem to be less effective.

Chiropractic, massage and acupuncture are alternative treatments. They provide excellent pain relief for some people.

Surgery is usually a laminectomy, or removal of some of the bone around the spinal canal, to make a larger opening for the nerves. Sometimes a spinal fusion is done, too, to stabilize the vertebrae and keep them from slipping and compressing the nerves.

Many people, especially those who are older or who have other health risks, benefit from minimally invasive surgery for lumbar stenosis. The surgeon views the lumbar spine with a microscopic endoscope and uses microsurgical techniques to make specific repairs. Endoscopic surgery is less invasive and better tolerated than traditional surgery.

What You Need to Know About HIV

HIV is an abbreviation for Human Immunodeficiency Virus. Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome or AIDS as it is generally called, is the result of this virus. When a person has AIDS, the immune system gradually break downs. The patient then becomes highly susceptible to infections and illnesses, which could even, be fatal. History dates its origin to June 5th 1981 in Los Angeles where the virus was found in five homosexual men. It was then called GRID or Gay-Related Immune Deficiency because people thought it only affected homosexual people. This theory was soon blown to pieces when cases were reported from all over. Today, AIDS has reached epidemic proportions. It has plagued most countries around the world and is considered a highly dangerous disease.

To gain a better understanding of HIV, we must first explore how it is transmitted.

a. HIV is a sexually transmitted disease. What does this mean? The mucous membrane lines different parts of the body such as the lips, genital areas, nostrils etc. When the mucous membrane comes in contact with sexual secretions of an infected HIV patient, the virus transfers from one to another. This is why the main cause for the spread of AIDS is unprotected sexual intercourse.

b. HIV is also transmitted through infected blood. Therefore, one has to take extreme precaution when undergoing blood transfusions. It is always advisable to go to a reputed hospital or clinic where infected syringes are not used. Intravenous drug users and hemophiliacs are at high risk to get HIV.

c. HIV can be transmitted from a mother to a child either in the womb, during childbirth or duing breast-feeding. The chances of this happening have been reduced with drugs and other procedures.

Some of the early symptoms include sinusitis, bronchitis, otitis, pharyngitis, weight loss, dry cough, unexplained fatigue, unusual blemishes on the tongue, herpes zoster and oral ulcerations. During the more advanced stages patients may have chronic diarrhea, continuous fever, extreme weight loss, oral hairy leukoplakia and candidiasis and pulmonary tuberculosis.

It is extremely important for people to be tested for HIV. In some communities, partners are required to take the HIV test prior to marriage. This is because it not only affects the infected individual but also can spread to the spouse and the unborn child. It is difficult telling someone you love that you have AIDS. However, is very vital for their health and safety.

Doctors, nurses and Medicare professionals are also exposed to this virus as they deal with syringes and needles on a daily basis. If you have AIDS and if you are looking for a doctor, then do some preliminary research on the doctor before you meet him or her. The doctor should be reliable and must be aware of the nuances of the field. You should choose a doctor who you are comfortable with.

Menopause-Demystified What You Need to Know

By John Mancini

Menopause has a bad rap, at best. This is one of the most misunderstood times in a woman’s life. However, it is natural and can be controlled through both medicinal and non-medicinal means. The following information regarding menopause will, hopefully, answer some questions and offer some treatment options for the millions of women who will soon be entering this next stage of life.

Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) has been the standard of care for menopausal women since the 1970′s. In fact, more than 40 million women every year receive prescriptions for this treatment. However, in recent years this form of treatment has come under attack as it is being thought that it causes an increase in heart disease.

The use of soy and vitamin E as a treatment for the symptoms of menopause are gaining momentum among those women who do not want to use hormone replacement therapy. Nevertheless, these options have not been subjected to the same scrutiny as prescription drugs. The reason for this is that vitamins, minerals and other non-traditional methods are classified as food items and not drugs. Therefore, the studies that may have been conducted are not done in accordance with the FDA guidelines. This means that any information gleaned from such studies may not be accurate.

There are a myriad of symptoms that signal the beginning of menopause. Irregular bleeding, menstrual cycles that are longer or shorter than normal, hot flashes and night sweats are some of the more common signs. It is important to note however, that even with a list that is this varied in symptoms that not all women have the same symptoms or experience the same severity of those symptoms. One woman’s experience of during this time in her life may vary greatly from the experiences of her friends and family.

It is best to talk to your health care provider if you suspect that you are entering the early stages of menopause. Together, you will be able to decide upon a course of action to alleviate some of the more uncomfortable aspects of this time of your life. Treatment does not need to follow either traditional or non-traditional methods, in fact, for many women a combination of the two works best.

The first step to alleviating some of the fear that is associated with menopause is to understand what menopause is. Simply put, it is the time when a woman’s ovaries cease to function. The ovaries control such functions as producing eggs and estrogen, when the ovaries stop working, so does the production of these two things. The cease in production of estrogen can lead to a fluctuation in hormone levels and can cause osteoporosis later in life. This is why hormonal replacement therapy (HRT) is the treatment of choice.

One last piece of information, menopause is not considered complete until the absence of a menstrual cycle for 12 consecutive months. During this time, you may experience an occasional cycle. It is important to note that pregnancy may still occur, if menopause is not completed. It would be wise to continue any birth control that you prefer during the menopause phase, if pregnancy is not wanted.

John Mancini has been writing about Menopause online and offline for a long time. Visit or to read more about matters like menopause treatments and stop hot flashes.
